The turntable motor sits underneath the microwave floor and rotates the glass tray for even cooking. When it fails, food heats unevenly because the tray doesn't spin. You might hear a grinding or humming noise, or the tray may rotate in one direction only. Before replacing the motor, check that the turntable coupler (the three-pronged plastic piece) isn't cracked and that the glass tray isn't chipped and binding. The motor itself is accessed from the bottom of the microwave.
