The bake element sits at the bottom of the oven and provides the primary heat for baking. When it fails, you may see visible damage (blistering, cracking, a bright spot, or a break in the coil), or the oven simply won't heat properly from the bottom. The broil element at the top may still work fine. Replacement is straightforward: remove two screws inside the oven, pull the element forward, disconnect the wires, and reverse for the new one. Make sure to turn off the circuit breaker before starting.
